Get the same ‘high’ effect but but without the dangers and problems associated with drugs and alcohol

Adam Tell’s You The Background To This Set Of Audios

I have told stories about when I first learned self-hypnosis as a teenager while still living with my parents; I used to stick on a pair of my Dad’s old headphones, plug it into his music system and play the ‘War of the Worlds’ LP while using self-hypnosis; focus on my imagination to create fantastical mindscapes and light shows; – pure escapism!

I would finish those sessions feeling wonderfully refreshed and revitalised.

Interestingly, in my earlier, very different life, I experimented greatly with a wide variety of recreational drugs and alcohol. One of the many reasons I stopped taking those kind of substances was that the ensuing hangovers and bouts of depression made my life miserable. What’s more, as I consumed more, the forced high created by the drugs decreased my ability to get high with the same amount of drugs thereafter (I kept needing to take greater amounts!) as well as inhibiting my ability to feel high and happy without drugs (as I said, it made me depressed on occasion and my ability to have fun plummeted).

Since then, over the years, there have been a number of things I have found to offer me ‘natural highs’ such as self-hypnosis, laughter, running, making love, teaching and even eating chocolate – so I managed to practice and practice to enable myself to feel high on life as possible – to be honest, none of these things offer the same kind of intensity as consuming ecstasy at a rave, or as hallucinogenic as smoking salvio divinorum in the wilderness or eating mushrooms picked from fields on the outskirts of a damp city in the English winter. Yet I think many people would be amazed by what kind of natural high we can create with the right kind of instruction, subsequent practice and some open-minded willing.

The beauty being that there are no adverse effects to a natural high.

Drugs damage the reward centre of the brain by forcing the brain to release dopamine. The brain knows how to balance a natural high so that it does not damage the brain or impair our ability to recreate those highs.

Some people may think this an odd application of hypnosis or even to read about this type of thing from a therapist and teacher such as myself – yet therapists spend a great deal of time attempting to alter moods of people who are depressed, anxious or sad. This set of audio tracks will be altering your mood for a natural high.

Animal studies conducted as far back as the 1950s (Olds and Milner, 1950; Hughes & Kosterlitz, 1974) proved that the brain produces its own internal opiates. Ongoing research showed that there are two key drivers of human pleasure – dopamine and endorphin.

Science has shown us that there is a neurochemical analogue for each mind-altering substance, such as recreational drugs; some of which can contribute to loss (temporary or permanent) of sanity, diminished well-being and greatly lowered productivity. Given that the brain is a giant pharmaceutical factory that manufactures its own mind-altering chemicals, the aim of these hypnosis tracks is to show you how to use hypnosis to derive natural pleasure. It is not without some short term ‘pain’ I suppose, because you require persistence and an open-mind whilst finding time to develop the skills.

As well as using processes that are included within this set of hypnosis tracks, you can help yourself to do more things that will help you feel good and laugh more – watch comedies, read funny books, make others laugh with stories or anecdotes and surround yourself with people who make you laugh and giggle. Do some physical activity such as running, cycling or swimming that is shown to release those feel good chemicals. Socialise, make love with your partner, get some fresh air… These things will lift your spirits, heighten your pain tolerance, reduce anxiety and stress, and boost your energy levels – plus, it’ll help you to be able to more readily access those feelings with the processes I’ll be sharing with you in these 4 tracks. Let me tell you a bit about each of the 4 tracks…

Getting A Natural Hypnotic High – Maasai Warrior Style!

On the December module of my hypnotherapy diploma last year, with it being my final training of the year, we finished the weekend off with a fun and simple exercise that is done in groups of three. The aim is to do no more than make an individual feel wonderfully high and happy

One member of the group is the recipient.

One member of the group is hypnotist.

The final member of the group is “special hypnotic words” suggestion deliverer.

The suggestion deliverer asks the recipient to get a sense of an occasion when they felt truly amazing, uplifted and high and to share the words they’d use to describe that experience. The suggestion deliverer makes a note of these words. Then, with some very particular music playing, the hypnotist hypnotises the recipient, gives a number of instructions for feeling good, while the suggestion deliverer sits behind uttering that individuals specific words as suggestions to feel good. Each session only lasts a couple of minutes, but the recipient has an amazingly wonderful experience.

This first track shows you how to have a similar experience using hypnosis and with some inspiration from the Maasai people….

Using Mind Altering Hypnotic Drugs

One Sunday last year, after teaching for a full weekend, I felt a tad jaded, but still got out and I ran 15 miles at the very dark, very wet and very windy sea front; I felt out of my usual shape having put a bit of weight on during the festive season, though I was so happy to have the wind in my hair, the sea air in my lungs and to be working towards my Spring marathon running goals.

Once indoors, I started my recovery process by eating dinner, drinking some cherry juice and having showered, stretched diligently, used the foam roller I have and got my compression stockings on, I got my feet up for a short while before bed.

I also did something that I have not done for a very long time indeed… I took an ibuprofen tablet. Shock. Horror! It relaxes the muscles, reduces inflammation and I thought of it as an easy option…

This confession is an interesting one that so many of us use in varying ways.

It represents that notion that is so prevalent in conventional health care – that well-being is just a tablet away.

One of my favourite bands is a group called The Jam who were big in the 70s and early 80s – They sang about ‘The Bitterest Pill’ they had to take. Isn’t it funny what that expression is referring to: That you are having to swallow something that is for your good, yet it tastes bitter and is not palatable. Yet, we find it so very, very easy to take a tablet, don’t we?

I can’t stand that culture of taking a tablet if we have a headache, taking a tablet if we are depressed (I know people who have been taking tablets to feel happy for years and years!), a tablet if we have indigestion, if we have a cold, if we have pretty much anything – there are scam-artists and con-men out there who make a living telling us that they have a miracle tablet that will make you thin! It is not proven to work by any credible authority, yet we cling on to the notion because it might just work for us!

So I was a tiny bit guilty and decided to revisit my own exploration on the subject of hypnotic tablets, because it would be far more effective to get your mind and body in shape with proven methods – though they require more concerted effort than taking a tablet.

Even I think that once in a while taking a rare tablet for pain and inflammation is not a big, big problem, however, what about mind-altering drugs that result in us getting high? … Rather than tablets for after an event (when we are sometimes too tired to use self-hypnosis, god forbid!) but that we take for no ther reason than to make us get high!?

So why not use a hypnotic high instead?

Piece of research upon piece of research about the Placebo effect have shown how much faith we truly have in tablets – so many pieces of placebo research show changes occurring within us as a result of taking it. Some research has even suggested that taking tablets that we know are placebo can still have an impressive effect upon us!

This hypnosis track is going to show you how to create your own legal, recreational drug. This process allows you to create your own hypnotic tablet that you can take and allow your body to respond accordingly. You may be amazed at just how your mind and body respond to taking a hypnotic tablet!

The Ultra Giggle Laughter Session

As I have said on numerous occasions already in my ezine and in my classes, sometimes we don’t need to use hypnosis just for a deep, lengthy therapeutic procedure.

Sometimes we just want to give ourselves a lift, especially if we have been in a bad mood for a while, or maybe been subjected to a number of problems in our life that have made it seem difficult to snap into a great mood, or perhaps we’ve been ignoring good stuff or felt that there has not been a lot to get excited about… Well this audio track that is absolutely for just getting high on life.

This session is focused on using giggles, laughter, smirks, guffaws and chuckles to get our hypnotic high. I often talk about and have written about before, when I was called into the headmaster’s office at school… He was talking loudly and sternly at me, and all I could do was keep thinking about stuff in class which had made me laugh, and the more I attempted to button up my laughter, the more serious the headmaster got, the more he threatened me with further troublesome consequences, the more I wanted to burst with a fit of giggles… It was agonising!

It was also glorious. I love that sensation whereby it feels as if tantalising joy and hilarity just wants to burst through every pore of your skin!

I can remember being at an NLP training watching Richard Bandler on stage presenting and he suggested that we all force a smile on our faces three times in succession and to observe closely what happened within us. Many found it difficult to get past the initial inhibition of actually smiling on purpose in front of other people. All those of us that did it felt better, laughed about it and got a shot of well-being, though it varied in intensity. It was a great way to alter mood. It actually started me off with a fit of giggles at the time and just thinking about that experience continues to make me smile.

Likewise, when I think of Frank Spencer or Tommy Cooper and their hilarious facial expressions in their comedy routines and old TV shows, I get a shot of humour and joy in my head that advances my mood for sure… I am also one of those people who laughs at comedy shows where there is some misfortune experienced, so I laugh at facial expressions of disgust or failure (or even pain!) sometimes too.

Just recently, my two-year-old son got in a mood when I cleared the avocado from the dining table – he was complaining and insisted he wanted some, so I should not clear it up just yet. Therefore, I took the serving spoon filled with avacado (which he actually does not like – he is a shining example of the terrible twos!) and spooned it into his mouth… Watching his face grimace as he pretended to like it was without a doubt one of the most hilarious things I have seen… Though my wife thought me cruel!

Then there are funny sounds. I think most boys find whoopie cushions hilarious and therefore farting sounds make them laugh, but there are many things that are considered hilarious by us all when we hear them or imagine hearing them. The classic circus clowns music or the Benny Hill theme tune also seem to be the kinds of sounds that are impossible to maintain feelings of misery when they are playing and make me smile. Please don’t take my word for it, play one of those pieces of music as vividly as you can in your mind, focus on it exclusively and feel what happens, even if it is minor, you’ll notice it.

So if all that stuff can help you feel better, and offer up a joyful natural high, then why not combine it all?

That is similar to what Assen Alladin offers up to help deal with initial symptoms of depression, as demonstrated in the Handbook of Cognitive Hypnotherapy For Depression. Of course, if you have depression, then you’ll need to see a qualified professional and get tailored solutions and not rely on snippets and techniques offered up in hypnosis audio tracks.

Using Hypnosis To Get Properly Spaced Out:

Remember that gag? “What do you do if you see a spaceman?”…. “Park in it man.”

Well with this fourth hypnosis session of this set, we use hypnosis to go into space. Well for what reason precisely?

Let me explain…

I recall one of the first times that I had the age-old notion of ‘The View From Above’ shown to me with a meditation and I often use it in therapy sessions with my clients to help them get a sense of perspective.

Within the Meditations of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius Antonius are a couple of references of that notion:

Plato has a fine saying, that he who would discourse of man should survey, as from some high watchtower, the things of earth.

And

Think of the totality of all being, and what mite of it is yours; think of all time, and the brief fleeting instant of it that is allotted to you.

There are a number of ways that the view from above notion can be used therapeutically, but the best and deepest way was shown to me and taught to me by Donald Robertson and is a great way to alter the perspective, not just in terms of stepping out of your usual perspective, but also in becoming aware of the vastness of the universe, the vastness of time, the massive diversity of life on the planet and where we sit within it all.

Here, we are going to use hypnosis, go into space and learn some things while there. One of those things is how to simply use hypnosis to get cosmic, spaced-out and enjoy the sensations as our hypnotic high develops.

Enjoy this set of audio tracks, enjoy learning what your brain and imagination can do when combined with hypnosis, but most importantly, enjoy your natural highs!
